Tombs of the Blind Dead Review
Chapter 11: Heartbeat
Betty drags the dying Roger into the small room and away from the zombies, but they are too close to bar the door again. The entire templar gang begins to shuffle inside. Maria finally get a glimpse of the dead knights and (quite naturally) screams, attracting their immediate attention. In short order they snack on her.
Across the room, Roger tells Betty that she'll be okay as long as she doesn't make a sound. He then dies in her arms, as she weeps.
When the knights are through with Maria, they turn their sightless attention to the direction of Roger and Betty. Betty attempts to hide, but soon realizes that the knights are hearing the sound of her beating heart. As they approach, she runs through the group and outside the door, making her way through an entire courtyard of swordbearing and mounted templars and also severely twisting her ankle in the process.
Betty makes her way out of Berzano, pursued by mounted knights. Now, a stroke of luck: the train is coming!
She screams for the train to stop, but the knights hear her and the chase is back on. The younger of the two aforementioned engineers spots Betty, and this time his father does not object when he engages the brake.
After a maddening session with the younger man trying to get the injured Betty onto the train, the slow templars arrive. Amazingly, the slow movers have ample time to dismount and approach the train before the young man can get Betty and himself to safety. As soon as she is on board, the templars kill the young man and his father. As Betty scurries into hiding, the knights board the passenger car and kill all on board. We end this section by noting that the train brake somehow gets released and (by itself) it heads forward toward its next destination.
