The Light In The Chicken House
Don't go in there while the light is shining and the voice is singing...
They say you don't want to go near the old chicken house at night, when the light is shining and the voice is singing. It's a dim light, they say, like an old oil lamp, and it makes you sick to your stomach just to look at it. The voice? Sometimes it's described as the voice of a young woman. Some say it sounds like children singing. The song? No one knows for sure. Some say it's a child's song. Others say it's a woman singing a lullaby.
They tell tales about the few who have dared to investigate. They come back silent, "without much to say," and refuse to talk about the experience. The locals whisper that some never come back at all: they're carried away the next morning, dead, faces frozen with looks of terror. What did they see? They saw a sickening light and heard voices, though no one else was there. It sounded like singing.
The last time I was in the area, the old chicken houses were gone, torn down. Before then, there were rumors. I never saw anything unusual, but then I was never there in the dark.
