Simple Bordered Background Sets
Making Fun Of The Early Days Of The WWW
If you've been on the Internet any time at all and can remember things like Geocities Neighborhoods (way before Y! got involved) you'll appreciate this page's purpose. It's nostalgia, pure and simple. In those days there were a lot of web pages that offered background sets - sets which are nothing more than a themed template. They consisted of a more or less (usually MORE) elaborate background image, matching bars, buttons, and sometimes some very large "welcome" banners. LOL. Anyway I used to have a big page of that stuff too, but I only have two here, mainly for laughs.
In those days site owners always had a disclaimer on their pages stating that they wanted credit where credit was due and required a LINK BACK to their home page on every page where their images were used. There was usually a stern statement that the owner would make every legal attempt to get your site taken down if you dared to use his images and didn't give credit! It was a hilarious time. Most "graphics designers" (I'm being kind here) even took the time to tell you exactly how to download the images onto your hard drive - and reminded you that "these images change frequently; do not link directly to them." Some, but very few, took the extra time to zip all these files up into a single download; I wonder now if most people even knew what a zip utility was. Usually there was an amusing discourse concerning the graphics program that was used to create those wondrous designs and the time it took the designer to complete the set.
The screenshot below will take you to a working themed background set that can actually be used if you choose (for whatever the reason) to use it. I made these pages with the old days in mind and included most of the useless information but without the demands for link backs or threats to have sites taken down.
I think it's funny that everyone used these sets in the days of dial-up when they took forever to load, but now that we have DSL and all that good stuff and could use huge images, we don't.
Enjoy this walk down memory lane.

Also see Asshur Set 2 It's the same as the above, but the color is white. And don't forget that link back on every page!
