The Speaker Box Fiasco

Nissan

Early in 2006 I bought two ten inch subwoofers and a set of Pioneer something or others to install speakers behind my seat. The truck came stock with two Nissan door speakers that were already worn out, plus you had to turn the head unit all the way up to even hear anything. To make a short story shorter, I replaced the 5 1/4 inch door speakers with aftermarket replacements by Pioneer and set about to build a speaker box. I made the ultimate box out of three quarter plywood, but somehow I got off by two entire inches in my depth. Rather than redo it I was tired, so I fit the box behind the seat and moved the seat ALL THE WAY FORWARD (lol). Also, when I loaded the box it was so heavy that I almost got a hernia trying to put it behind the seat.

As can be seen, the box was so tight that it smashed the Pioneer speaker covers and wore the carpet quite a bit. Fortunately, no permanent damage was done.

After several months of this silliness, I got some time off and decided to redo the box. With a jigsaw I shortened the depth by two inches and redid the carpet. By this time the speaker covers were ruined, so I tossed them. I recarpeted the entire box and added two metal handles I got from a hardware store. That solved the problem of trying to manhandle the heavy and awkward box. The sawdust in the picture below (around the speakers) was removed a short while later with my trusty air compressor. All went well except for the rainstorm that blew up and filled my toolboxes (I was outside) with water.
