Review: Ghosts of East Texas and the Pineywoods

by Mitchel Whitington

Ghosts of East Texas and the Pineywoods is a must read for anyone who is a resident of or has roots in East Texas. It is a recommended read for anyone interested in stories about haunted locations - and by stories we mean tales that have been carefully investigated and not just repeated. Mr. Whitington is careful to distinguish between urban legends and what seem to be actual hauntings, and the book which reveals his research is a pleasure to read. Whether or not you believe in "ghosts" or the "otherwordly genre," this is a work you'll enjoy.

Ghosts of East Texas and the Pineywoods is about spooky subjects - but it's not a spooky book. The author tells his stories in a no nonsense but immensely pleasant way which struck me as something of a cross between a teller of ghost stories and an avid historian - which is right up my alley.

I have never met Mr. Whitington, though I've been to many of the same places that he has investigated. I can imagine that it would be a pleasure to speak with him!

Some of the Texas towns featured in this book: Kilgore, Henderson, Pittsburg, Dekalb.

About the Author Mitchel Whitington is an accomplished and busy writer (and also, apparently, an investigator of ghost stories) from Jefferson, Texas. He lives with his wife in an historic home ("The Grove," 1861) which itself is recognized by those in the know as...you guessed it...a haunted house.
