Beaver's Bend State Park
In June 2007 I had planned to take a trip to Fort Towson, Oklahoma to photograph the ruins of the old fort. Ultimately the trip was cancelled because of intensely bad weather which would have photography impossible. However, in that same month I was the guest speaker at a church youth camp at Beaver's Bend Park in Broken Bow (or Hochatown; Broken Bow is the nearby larger town) Oklahoma. During that time I (naturally) took the opportunity to do a little exploring.
On the way to the park we were sidetracked by the awesome Museum of the Red River in Idabel, Oklahoma (visit the website and take a look at "Acro," a former resident of Oklahoma) and one or two much needed stops at various places like McDonald's and visits with relatives along the way. When we finally arrived we were again sidetracked by the Forest Heritage Center Museum and then we got quite lost trying to find the camp site.

Once we were at the camp we found that our reserved "cabin" (I heard those words beforehand and imagined a super nice cabin in the woods) was-

-actually a dormitory with mattresses as hard as sandbags.

To make matters worse, it stormed every day we were there and the creeks/rivers rose to such an extent that the campers weren't allowed to swim. Once there was even the threat of a tornado. Rain certainly didn't stop me from having a good time. It was a successful trip.
The following pictures were taken during my off time when I had the opportunity to wander the nature and museum/wildlife refuge of the park.
